How to Tell if a CPT School is Legit?

I’ve been looking at some Day 1 CPT schools online, but I’m not sure how to judge if they’re legit or not. I want to avoid any issues when changing of status in the future.

Any tips or things to look out for? Would love to hear from those who’ve been through this!

When you have your eyes on a couple universities, check regional accreditations, and the next move is try to find if there’s a real student you can talk to. There are plenty of students in this forum.

Acrreditation for sure is the top priority, or else you’ll have trouble someday when you need to deal with the USCIS. I think school history is worth learning as well!

I think if they also have domestic students population will be better.

Accreditation, onsite freqency…

As a higher ed admin, I would say regional and national accreditation. SEVP certification(important to international students.) Check their history of compliance, as well as their ranking and overall history. Make sure to use reliable source of information(official websites/announcements>personal opinions online).

Question: Does SEVP has a cycle of renewing approvals? Do you happended to know how often are universities being reevaluated

Sure! All schools opening programs to international students need to go through the SEVP recertification every two years. Check out more here on their website: Getting Started with SEVP Recertification | Study in the States

The SEVP is renewed every 2 years, universities are going to be reviewed recently might get increase scrutiny due to current adminstration

Go check if the school has accreditation. You can look online to verify the school’s qualifications and student situation.
