I find that different CPT schools have different rules. How to verify if a school’s CPT policy is truly compliant?
Great question—and one a lot more students should be asking.
The truth is, there’s no magic one-click tool to verify CPT compliance, but here’s how to sniff out red flags vs. legit setups:
Check the program structure: CPT is supposed to be integral to the degree. If a school hands out CPT on Day 1 without any clear academic tie-in, that’s sketchy.
Look at the course catalog & syllabi: Are you actually required to enroll in internships or practicum courses tied to your CPT every term? That’s a good sign.
Talk to the DSO (Designated School Official) or the Admission Agent: A compliant school will have a DSO/Agent/Staff who knows their stuff. If they dodge your questions or can’t explain their CPT policy clearly… run.
Ask current students: Real students will tell you if they’re being asked to show up for classes, attend check-ins, and do actual academic work—or if it’s just a “pay tuition and disappear” setup.
Bottom line: CPT should never feel like a work visa workaround. If it looks too easy, USCIS might think so too.

I think check for previous success example def gonna be a good way!
Check with people who’ve successfully gotten H1b afterwards, you can see if they got an RFE and what kind of RFE they got
That part is difficult. CPT students lack a dedicated community, and online inquiries often go unanswered. This forum is a valuable resource for asking questions. Thanks to everyone who contributes!
Great advice, thank you!
