Hey everyone,
I’m on an H-1B visa, and my spouse and child need to get their H-4 visa stamped. I won’t be able to travel with them, so I’m wondering—can they go for stamping by themselves without me being there?
Has anyone’s family gone through this process alone? If so, what documents did they need, and was there any issue during the interview or with the dropbox submission?
Would really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share! Thanks in advance.
yes. It’s not required for the H-1B primary applicant to be present during the visa interview or dropbox submission.
Your spouse and underaged children can apply for H4 visa stamping together and go to the consulate without you, that’s actually what 90% of people do
Your spouse or dependent can attend the H4 visa interview on their own. The required documents include the I-797 and materials that can prove your relationship, such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.
Yep, totally fine — your spouse and kid can go for H-4 stamping without you. Super common, especially when you’re stuck working and can’t travel.
Just make sure they’ve got:
• Your H-1B approval (I-797)
• Copies of your visa, passport, recent pay stubs, maybe a job verification letter
• Marriage/birth certificates
• Their DS-160s and appointment stuff
• Your I-94 (just in case)
If they’re eligible for dropbox, it’s usually smooth. If it’s an interview, just make sure they can explain your situation clearly — like where you work and how long you’ve been on H-1B.
Should be fine as long as all the paperwork’s solid. Good luck!
