I’m considering enrolling in a CPT school to maintain my status. My boyfriend is on H-1B and has already filed for I-140**. If his I-140 gets approved** while I’m still studying, we plan to get married, and I’d like to switch to H-4 at that point.
Is this a good approach? How difficult is the transition, and can I drop out of my CPT program once I switch to H-4?
Yes it is a good approach, and make sure you are aware of the timing.
It would be better if you get married before the i-140 is approved.
Also, you need to understand once you change your status to H-4, you are not able to work anymore until you receive your EAD card.
