I have a 2.4 CGPA from my bachelor’s degree in India and I want to study in the U.S. for my master’s.
Most universities I’ve contacted require a 3.0 or above, and some agents have said it’s not possible without doing another bachelor’s.
Are there any accredited U.S. universities that accept students with low GPAs if they have strong SOPs, LORs, and work experience?
Also, how does this affect visa chances during the F1 interview?
Would love to hear from others who got accepted with a low GPA and how they handled it.
A few thoughts:
- Yes, there are accredited U.S. universities that take a holistic view — especially in CPT-friendly programs. Strong SOPs, solid work experience, and a clear academic plan can make a big difference.
- Visa-wise: The consulate looks for intent and credibility more than GPA alone. If your story makes sense and your program aligns with your goals, it’s not a dealbreaker.
- Pro tip: Some schools also offer “conditional admission” or pathway programs for students with lower GPAs.
Don’t let one number define your potential — there’s more flexibility out there than most agents admit
