What's the most ridiculous/easiest Green card case you've ever heard of?

Hello everybody! We all know the green card process can be long, stressful, and full of challenges—especially for F-1 students on Day 1 CPT who later try to transition to H-1B or EB categories. But every now and then, you hear about someone who somehow got their green card in the easiest or most ridiculous way imaginable.

So, I’m curious… what’s the craziest, fastest, or most unexpected green card case you’ve ever heard of? :exploding_head:Especially for NIW and Eb2/3

Some common “wild card” cases I’ve seen or heard of:

  1. Someone who barely worked in the U.S. but got EB-1 approval.
  2. A person who randomly won the DV lottery after years of struggling on H-1B.
Someone who got their marriage-based green card in record time without an interview.
  3. A case where an employer sponsored a green card for a role that seemed questionable for PERM.

If you’ve heard (or experienced) anything like this, share your story! Whether it’s funny, frustrating, or just unbelievable, I’d love to hear about it.

First of all, you need to clarify where you were born. If you were born in countries with a lot of immigrants applying for green card, such as india or china, then it means:

  1. EB1: you still need to wait 3+ yrs
  2. you are not eligible
  3. perm+i-140 approval usually takes 2-3 yrs, and you have extra 5+ yrs to wait to send out your i-485

considering all above, the fastest way is getting married, you can get your green card in 1-2 yrs.

Thank you! Although I knew what you shared, is there any specific and crazy cases you’ve heard of?

I’d say that becoming an illegal immigrant might get you a green card quickly through certain loopholes like asylum, but these situations are extreme. The real issue is that some people pretend to be refugees or asylum seekers, which undermines the system. This not only creates unfair advantages but also makes it harder for those who genuinely need protection, as immigration officers may become more skeptical and assume legitimate cases are fraudulent.

My friend’s boyfriend was robbed underneath his apartment building and a bullet pierced his shoulder, he woke up from the hospital and was told he got a u-visa and would be receiving a green card.

Haha, love this topic! The green card journey can feel like running a marathon in a thunderstorm… and then you hear stories that totally defy logic. Here are a few crazy ones I’ve come across:

:glowing_star: The Accidental EB-1 :

I knew someone who had one mid-level award from their home country and a few LinkedIn posts about their work — no patents, no major publications — but somehow managed to get EB-1A approved without even an RFE. (We all collectively screamed inside.)

:bullseye: The “Job Title Magic” Case :

A friend’s employer filed PERM for a role titled “Business Systems Analyst”, but the actual job was like 50% admin work. Still got EB-2 approved because the lawyer framed the job description perfectly against DOL requirements. Timing and wording saved the day.

:tada: DV Lottery Miracle :

One guy was stuck in H-1B limbo for eight years and filed for NIW — then randomly won the DV lottery just a few months later. His NIW was still pending when he got the green card through DV. Literally bought a scratch-off ticket the same week to see if his luck continued. (It didn’t.)

:ring: Marriage Green Card in Lightning Speed :

I know a couple who filed I-130 and I-485 concurrently. They never got an interview — just straight approval in under four months. It was so fast they thought it was a scam email at first!

:high_voltage: NIW in 6 Months Without Premium :

A researcher in a niche STEM field filed a DIY NIW — no lawyer, no premium processing — and got approved in 6 months flat. They had strong letters and framed their field (like quantum security) as a national interest area using Biden’s executive orders. Timing + storytelling = magic.
