Just came across this post on Reddit and thought it was worth sharing here to hear what you all think. It’s about that classic interview question — “Why should we hire you?”
The original poster said that after answering the question, the hiring manager asked if they had any questions in return. So they flipped it and said something like:
“To be honest, I’m still interviewing with other companies. So let me turn the tables — what would make me choose your offer over any other one?”
It was a bold move, for sure. Maybe even a little risky. But apparently it worked they got invited to a second interview with the department head.
The point they made was that interviews go both ways. You’re not just being evaluated — you’re evaluating the company too. And if you’re bringing value, it’s okay to expect them to win you over a bit too.
Some folks in the Reddit comments loved it and said they’ve tried similar things. Others said it’s a bad idea unless you’re in a niche role or already have other offers lined up.
Personally, I’m still figuring out how far is too far in interviews, so this kind of mindset is interesting to me.
Have any of you ever flipped the script like that during an interview? Would you try it? Or is it too much of a gamble?
