As an international student, navigating the visa process and job search can be stressful, but planning ahead makes all the difference. My experience was overall positive, but only because I was proactive. When it came time to talk to employers about sponsorship, I was direct. I clearly explained my situation, what type of visa I was on, and what I’d need from them in the future. More importantly, I highlighted the value I brought—specific skills, results, and how I could help the company long-term. Don’t wait until the last minute. Start early, map out your CPT/OPT timeline, and have honest conversations. Some employers will say no, but others will appreciate your clarity and preparation. The key is to make it easy for them to say yes by showing you’re worth the investment and already understand the process.

Thanks for sharing! I also found there’s no need in hiding, being upfront about the visa and don’t waste anyone’s time. As there are too many candidates in the pool rn, they can easily find someone if they are not satisfied with you.
