Need help: Is it too much to ask for Day1CPT + green card at the same time?

I’m currently in the final year of my OPT, working full-time at a mid-sized tech company. Unfortunately, I wasn’t selected in this year’s H-1B lottery, so I’m planning to enroll in a Day 1 CPT program to maintain my status.

At the same time, I’m hoping my company can start the green card process soon. However, the current policy is to begin PERM only after H-1B is approved — which may not happen anytime soon due to the lottery.

Now I’m trying to figure out how to bring up both topics (Day 1 CPT and green card sponsorship) with my manager in a way that feels natural. I don’t want to come across as someone who’s constantly asking for immigration support :innocent:.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would appreciate any tips on how to navigate it.

In my opinion, you are only asking for greencard. day 1 cpt is just a transition. you are basically saying, if the employer can apply for greencard for you, you will deal with the status issue while waiting for I-140 yourself.

You are right. I am not expecting the company to handle everything, just hoping to start the process early so I can plan ahead.
