If I have already been selected in the H1B lottery and am currently working under an active H1B status, is it legally possible to work full-time for two different employers at the same time? Are there any immigration or legal restrictions I should be aware of? I’d appreciate any advice or shared experiences from those who have been in a similar situation. Thanks!
Yep, it’s possible but it’s not as simple as just working two jobs. You’d need the second company to file what’s called a concurrent H1B petition. That way, you’re legally allowed to work for both employers at the same time.
It’s different from a transfer — you’re not leaving your current job, just adding a second one. But both roles still have to follow all the regular H1B rules: same field, proper wages, etc.
One thing to keep in mind: you can’t just start the second job because you “have an H1B.” That visa is employer-specific. The second employer has to file their own paperwork, and you need at least a receipt notice before starting.
I know a few people who’ve done this, especially in tech, when they picked up a second full-time or long-term side role. But yeah — talk to an attorney if you’re seriously considering it, just to be 100% safe.
Hope that helps!
yes. it is called concurrent h1b. rare but exist.
I’ve never heard of concurrent H1B before. If someone holds two full‑time jobs, wouldn’t USCIS question them working 80 hours a week?
Is there a minimum number of hours required for the second H1B job?
And any idea if this works the same way for H1B cap-exempt jobs (like at universities)?
