I only used my regular OPT after I graduated from my first master’s. I had a STEM major, so supposedly, I will have an extension. Yet I didn’t use it. Now I’m thinking about getting a second master’s, but no STEM. Am I able to use my STEM extension after I use my Second Master regular OPT?
From what I know, you only get one OPT per degree level. So if you already used it after your first master’s, you can’t get another one for a second master’s.
And the STEM extension only works if you have active OPT—it doesn’t work on its own. So if there’s no OPT, there’s no STEM extension either.
I know…it’s super frustrating. Did your regular OPT already end?
