Canadian Job Market?

So I know many of us might be considering Canada as a backup because the immigration pathway is more clear-cut. How is the job market there actually though? I’m worried about making the jump only to have my career prospects limited. :grimacing:

Agreed, Canada’s got that smooth immigration vibe, which is super tempting.

I’ve mostly heard the job market’s smaller and salaries are lower, especially in tech. A lot of folks still end up wanting to come back to the U.S. after getting PR from Canada. :smiling_face_with_tear:

  • Unemployment is holding steady but high

Canada’s national unemployment rate has been hovering at 6.9% as of July 2025, one of the higher levels seen in several years .

  • July saw a sharp drop in jobs

In that month, the country shed 40,800 jobs, particularly affecting permanent roles. Youth were hit hardest—ages 15–24 saw an unemployment rate of 14.6%, the highest since 2010 (excluding pandemic years) .

  • June was more promising—but momentum faded fast

Earlier in the summer, June saw a surge of 83,000 new jobs, mainly in part‑time work . Unfortunately, July reversed those gains, marking a turbulent labor market.

Thank you Melinda! Looks like the situation isn’t too good over there
