Are certs or bootcamps worth it while job hunting?

Still job hunting and thinking about picking up a short cert or bootcamp (like Google Data Analytics or something) just to stay busy and maybe help with apps.

Anyone done this while in between jobs or on CPT? Did it actually help with interviews, or just kinda look nice on paper?

Would be great to hear what worked (or didn’t).

this is a pretty general question! some fields might actually require certain certifications, whereas in other fields, the certification could help prove that you have the skills/background if your work history doesn’t already clearly show it

it could be helpful if you’re actually learning new skills through the certification, and want to demonstrate that

if you already have the skills in the certification, then you could highlight those skills in your description of those projects on your resume, rather than spending extra time on showing those skills

in addition, think about how these skills/certifications could fit your narrative - would they actually complement your work, or would they appear too unrelated?

Thanks for the insight. Sorry, I realize I should’ve been more specific since it’s highly dependent on industry like you said. I have a degree in data analytics but don’t have any job experience to “prove” my skills and I’m having a very hard time finding work in the field. I guess I was wondering if certs/bootcamps could help on top of the degree :downcast_face_with_sweat:

Still job hunting and considering picking up a short cert or bootcamp (like Google Data Analytics or something similar) just to stay productive—and hopefully strengthen my job applications.

I’m on CPT right now, so I’m also curious:

Has anyone here done a short program or cert while in between roles or studying?

Did it actually help with interviews or land you callbacks? Or did it mostly just look nice on a résumé without much impact?

Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t). Open to honest takes!

doing extra certifications on top of your work for masters/doctorate while working full time…sounds…tiring lol
