I’m considering enrolling in a CPT program, but I want to understand what happens if I lose my job while studying. Since CPT is tied to employment, does that mean I’d be out of status if I don’t find a new job right away?
Do schools usually give students a grace period to secure a new employer, or is it an immediate issue? Also, if this happens, can I stay enrolled without CPT, or would I need to transfer schools or change status?
From my experience, I don’t think anything serious will happen. You can just remain as a student. Otherwise, they should at least have a grace period for you to look for a new job.
It depends on the school, some schools like NEC they require you have a job throughout the program so you would have 2 months grace period to find a new job, but like Westcliff they dont require a job so just need to update your advisor and pause your CPT
University such as Harrisburg university, Westcliff, CIAM all have probation period where for 1 or 2 semester where you have to get back to employment. Which school is you referring to.
