Really depends, but if you’re on OPT and Day 1 CPT, is more risky compare to a graduate student on summer break. Focus on education outcome before employment is what I heard the most important

The officer just asked basic questions like where I study and what I’m majoring in. It was quick and straightforward.

One thing to keep in mind: sometimes CBP officers (especially at major ports of entry like LAX or JFK) may ask to check your phone, including social media, chat apps, or browsing history. It doesn’t happen to everyone, but it’s good to be prepared. Just make sure you don’t have anything on your phone that could be misunderstood — for example, messages that could be taken out of context about work, immigration, or anything sensitive.

I traveled on F-1 recently and got back fine. Just make sure you carry:
Valid F1 visa
Recent I-20 with travel signature
Enrollment proof (like a class schedule or transcript)
CPT/OPT approval letter if applicable
Anything that shows you’re still in status
No issues at the border for me, but I was ready to explain everything if needed. If your visa’s still valid and your SEVIS is active, you should be okay — just be prepared and confident.
