Hi everyone! I’m exploring PhD and DBA programs and wondering:
Do these programs allow CPT or OPT like master’s degrees?
Any Day 1 CPT options for PhD/DBA students?
Would love to hear from anyone enrolled or planning to apply!

CPT University offers a DBA program. Students can apply for CPT, and after graduation, they can also apply for OPT. However, full-time CPT during the program cannot exceed 12 months; part-time CPT has no restrictions for OPT application.
I am planning to apply for dba as it will give me additional 3-4 chances in h1b lottery.
Yes, from what I’ve seen, CPT schools offering DBA programs that allow students to use CPT throughout the entire program. But just a heads-up — if you plan to apply for OPT later, it’s generally not recommended to use full-time CPT for more than 12 months total, or it might affect your OPT eligibility.
As for schools, the ones I know that offer DBA programs are mostly on the West Coast. Westcliff University and Sofia University are two options worth checking out.
yes! and some universities provide several different concentration of their DBA, you can buy yourself more time by adding more concentrations! lol
Yes, there are many universities out there that offer a DBA, such as Westcliff and Sofia, among others. However, please ensure that if you want to use OPT or STEM OPT, you do not use your full-time CPT for more than 12 months. HTH
Oh I didn’t know that! I thought it’s only 3-4 years, thanks for sharing!
DBA or doctoral level courses do have CPT and OPT. doctoral degrees are a bit different from PhD. PhD focus more on researching, therefore, even if you have CPT, it usually on-campus lab works; whereas doctoral is more commercial and focus on helping you to succeed in the industry of your choice other than being an academia.
