I saw on USCIS that the average age for H1b beneficiaries is around 30, but a lot of people around me got sponsorships right after graduate school or even undergraduate. So, what do you think? On average how many times do you need to go through the lottery to get a selection?
Or, let’s assume the average first-time entry age is 25 based on my personal impression, doesn’t that mean 5 times to be selected? A green card can finish its process at this point I believe. What do you think?
This is my first round I’m praying very hard for H1B everyday… Plzzzzzzzzzzzz Some of my friend got it the first round and they even have 3 years of OPT…
Great observation! While the average H-1B beneficiary age is around 30, many do get sponsorship right after grad or undergrad. However, with a 20-25% selection rate, it often takes multiple tries.
If we assume first-time applicants are 25, applying yearly could mean 4-5 attempts before selection. But not everyone applies continuously—some switch to L-1, O-1, or leave the U.S.
As for green cards, processing time varies by country. Some may complete it within this period, but for backlogged countries, it’s much longer. So while 5 attempts seem reasonable, individual cases differ.
