The H-1B 2025 lottery results are coming out, and like many of you, I’m feeling the pressure. Some of my friends got selected—huge congrats to them! But for those of us still waiting or not selected, it’s time to seriously think about what’s next.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
If I don’t get selected, should I:
Start a second master’s with Day 1 CPT?
Look into switching to an E2 business visa?
Explore EB3 unskilled opportunities in remote areas?
Try cap-exempt H-1B through a nonprofit?
Or just go back home and reapply next year?
I would love to hear what others are planning. If you’ve been through this before or are in the same boat, let’s share ideas and help each other out.
I don’t know what country are you from but EB3 might not be good for you, since you won’t have enough time to be in the US to wait for it. If you’re not qualified for EB1, and don’t want Day 1 cpt, O1 could be a way but if depends on your field and how good you are.
Thanks for your input, Duckcooo. You’re right — EB3 can be tricky depending on the country and wait times. I’m still exploring my options. EB1 isn’t a fit right now, and I’m not too keen on Day 1 CPT either. O1 sounds interesting though — I’ll definitely look into it more based on my field and qualifications. Appreciate the advice!
second master with day1cpt, all other will require waiting period, not sure about your born place but nowadays the whole process will take 3-5 years..if day1cpt is not working, try o1 or l1
Thank you for the suggestion, Shakwkhe!
This weekend, I’ll be joining the H1B Visa Alternative Summit with GoElite, so I’ll make sure to ask the immigration attorney about the O1 visa there.
