Myth or Truth - working on an F1 visa

Think F-1 students can’t work at all? Think again. :raised_hand::books:

Many believe international students on an F-1 visa are completely banned from working—but that’s a myth. While there are rules, on-campus jobs are allowed, and programs like CPT (Curricular Practical Training) and OPT (Optional Practical Training) make off-campus work possible with proper authorization. Just don’t risk your status by working without approval!

Stay informed. Follow the rules. And protect your future.

just curious, would you define someone on OPT as a “Student”? even though they are on f1, they aren’t actually “studying” during the duration of their OPT. I’ve always found this terminology a bit confusing lol

Even though you’re not in class during OPT, you’re still on an F-1 visa, so you’re technically still a student under immigration rules.

OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization after finishing your degree—it’s a benefit of your F-1 status.
So yes, you’re not studying, but still considered an F-1 student!
